Crit Work "Getting Close"

Here is my work for the Critique for Thursdays class.

The top image is with a shallow depth of field with the subject being a tiny thorn branch sticking from the ground.

The bottom image is a portion of a adobe oven that had wear and tear from the years of use to depict the deep depth of field.

Comment on the pictures, have a good evening, morning, day, or whatever it may be.

  1. The thorn branch is not quite focused... Its a bit blurry as i zoom in on it...

The oven is sharp very detailed...

  2. think if the boca effect was not on the right branch it would totally bring out the both of the thorn branch. Clarity and contrast a little dark, it should work out.

Rocks on the oven is textured and focus.

  3. I agree that the top photo is blurry when zoomed in, but when looking from a distance it looks as if it's an xray of the plant. It's a great example of shallow depth of field though.

The bottom photo is clear and shows great detail. The colors in the photos show a variety of differnet grays, whites and blacks.

  4. 1. I dont think ones definition of the Bokeh (and that is how its properly spelled) is correct here. The tumble weed is good, but the whites just need *a little* tweeking, they're on the edge of being blown out. With the shallow depth of field it brings out the center as its focal point.

    2. The sandstone bread oven: has clarity and focus. even distribution of tones throughout the entire photo.

  5. picture 1. a little blurry on the top photo But the use of depth of field is right on target
Picture 2. definition of oven rocks is clear and the tones are evenly distributed through the lights and the darks.. Beautiful!

  6. photo 1. focus draws attention to center plant rather than both sections of the plant. sharp points on leaves well defined.
photo 2. nice range of color, lights, and dark. interesting subject, reminds me of a tiny cliff village
